✉️ Introduction
Edited by Fitzgerald's biographer and friend, Andrew Turnbull, this book contains letters Fitzgerald wrote to his only daughter Scottie (1921-1986), covering his daughter's adolescence from 1933 to his death in 1940, from the age of 12 to 19.
✉️ Editor's Recommendation
◎ He was originally a literary genius who wrote many classics such as "The Great Gatsby" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button". His legend is everywhere in the literary world:
★ Hemingway’s famous couple – “Official comments” from his wife (Zelda Fitzgerald):
My husband and Hemingway! They look like a couple together!
★ Haruki Murakami’s writing idol× A literary master admired by Eileen Chang.
★ Defined the legendary "Jazz Age" in American history.
◎ With his wife having a mental breakdown and his daughter still young, he became "a candle burning at both ends"
——Consumed in trivial matters, struggling under heavy burdens, the once high-spirited "young genius" fell into the "collapse era" of middle age.
◆ He emerged from the literary world at the age of 24, spent money lavishly, indulged in pleasure, and reached the peak of his life;
◆ At the age of 34, he was heavily in debt and suffering from illness. He was forced to live apart from his wife and daughter and became a "Hollywood worker";
◆ He died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 44. His masterpiece had not yet been recognized. He held the "cheapest funeral".
"He gave me a golden childhood until the world started to weigh on him, when I was just eleven."
—Daughter Scottie
◎ When a father with a "middle-aged breakdown" meets a "rebellious young daughter" - how should the "heartbroken" father respond?
It is close to life, sincere in emotion, and full of golden sentences that make people laugh.
★ Sometimes humorous and doting: My mind is empty today. It seems that I have been writing a story for the Saturday Evening Post since I got up. I thought of you, and when I thought of you, I was full of joy.
★ Worry from time to time: We have the same ideas about 90% of things - except your laziness which makes me worried.
★ Sometimes I nag helplessly: "Prophet Dad!" I can hear your sneer. God knows how much I wish I could not always see through your future.
★ Tell you sincerely from time to time: I think you should accept the sadness and misery in the world we live in with a certain vigor.
◎ Includes real photos, hand-painted illustrations, and a kraft paper file bag structure cover design, leading readers to immerse themselves in the world of Fitzgerald and his daughter's letters.
✉️ Celebrity recommendation
Fitzgerald's talent is like the colorful patterns on a butterfly's wings, completely innate.
— Ernest Hemingway
When many famous writers of Fitzgerald's generation are gradually forgotten, Fitzgerald will still be a great writer loved by people because he created a new era and a new generation for people.
— Gertrude Stein
If I were asked to choose a book that I must read in my life, I would choose The Great Gatsby without hesitation. If I hadn't encountered this work, I even think that the novels I wrote would be completely different from the ones I have now.
—— Haruki Murakami
Fitzgerald is the American writer I admire most. He is a genius with superb writing skills. His works have strong characteristics of the times, clear narration, elegant style and colorful words and sentences.
—— Zhang Ailing
