Description
"Present Concerns" compiles C.S. Lewis's scattered journalistic essays, which discuss literature, education, human nature, and many persistent ailments in modern thought. Lewis was wary of newspapers throughout his life, believing that intellectuals were most susceptible to being misled by them. Therefore, the book holds at least two significant meanings: first, it helps to provide a more comprehensive understanding of C.S. Lewis; second, although the issues discussed emerged in the middle of the last century, they remain relevant today. The translation of "Present Concerns" is detailed and precise. Each essay begins with a "Translator's Note" of about a hundred words, and the main text includes four types of translator's footnotes—"Explanation of Proper Nouns, Elucidation of Allusions, Notes on This Translation, and Comparative References"—to facilitate the reader's understanding of the book.
