About the book · · · · · ·
"Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!" is Richard Feynman's most famous autobiography, a collection of anecdotal stories gathered randomly and joyfully over seven years of drumming with Ralph Leighton. It's astonishing how many wonderful and crazy things happened in one person's lifetime: pranking classmates in his university dorm, observing ants, imitating hunting dogs sniffing for scent, incredible computational abilities, cracking nine safes containing top-secret atomic bomb documents, fighting in a bar restroom, watching nude dances, playing samba drums in Brazil, the embarrassment of learning Japanese, being quite good at drawing, fooling psychiatrists, deciphering ancient Mayan astronomical texts, and so on. These hilarious stories showcase Feynman's candid and honest character, his free spirit, and his creative thinking. Physics research, the central axis of his life, was actually just a toy that this great player approached with all his curiosity and passion.
