About the Author
Habermas, born in 1928, studied philosophy, psychology, history, economics, etc. at the University of Göttingen, Germany, the University of Zurich, Switzerland, and the University of Bonn, Germany. From 1961 to 1964, he was a professor of philosophy at Heidelberg University. From 1964 to 1967, he was a professor of philosophy-sociology at Frankfurt University and director of the Institute of Research at Frankfurt University. From 1971 to 1983, he was the director of the Institute for Living Conditions of the Technological World of the Max Planck Institute. From 1983 to 1994, he was a professor of philosophy-sociology at Frankfurt University and retired in 1994.

Habermas is an important theoretical sociologist and philosopher in contemporary Western society. He has a wide influence in the fields of philosophy and sociology in Germany, Europe and North America. He has written many books, and the publication of almost every book is regarded as a major event in the philosophical community. His major works include: The Structural Transformation of the Public Sphere (1962), Theory and Practice (1963), Knowledge and Interest (1968), The Legitimacy Problem in Late Capitalism (1973), The Theory of Communicative Action (1981), The Theory of Communicative Action (Supplement and Argument) (1984), The Philosophical Discourse of Modernity (1985), Post-Metaphysical Thinking (1988) and Between Facts and Norms (1994).
