Dostoyevsky (1821-1881) was an important writer in the Russian literary world in the 19th century. He was a world-renowned novelist, on par with Leo Tolstoy and Turgenev. He had a difficult and complicated life and creative path, and was one of the most complex and contradictory writers in the history of Russian literature. His major works include Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, The Possessed, The Brothers Karamazov, Notes from the Dead House, The Insulted and Injured, and Notes from the Underground.
Zang Zhonglun, a translator, was born in Wujin, Jiangsu. He translated many works of Dostoyevsky, such as Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, Devils, The Brothers Karamazov, Notes from the Dead House, The Hypocrite and His Admirers, The Insulted and the Injured, Notes from Underground, etc. Other translations include The Stationmaster, The Inspector General, Taras Bulba, and Past and Thoughts (co-translated with Ba Jin), as well as short and medium-length masterpieces by Leo Tolstoy, The Thunderstorm by Alexander Ostrovsky, and Turgenev's On Literature.
