Anton Chekhov (1860–1904), born in Taganrog, Rostov Province, Russia, was a great critical realist writer, master of humorous satire, master of short story art, and renowned playwright of the late 19th century in Russia. He entered Moscow University to study medicine in 1879, and after graduating in 1884, he practiced medicine and began his literary career. His main creative fields were novellas, short stories, and drama, with particularly abundant achievements in short stories.
