Jun'ichi Watanabe, a Japanese literary master, national writer, and winner of the Japanese government's "Medal with Purple Ribbon".

Born in Hokkaido, Japan in 1933. He graduated with a doctorate from Sapporo Medical University in 1958 and began writing literature while teaching and practicing medicine at his alma mater. His early works were mainly medical themes, and gradually expanded to historical and biographical novels.

His love novels, which are based on medical knowledge and life experience and deeply explore the fundamentals of gender, are particularly popular among readers. "Paradise Lost" alone has sold 6 million copies in Japan, and "Shadowless Lamp" has also sold over 5 million copies.

He has won many literary awards, and his works have been translated into dozens of languages ​​and published in various countries, with hundreds of millions of readers around the world. He has published more than 300 works so far, more than 60 of which have been adapted into film and television dramas. He died in Tokyo in April 2014.
