This book is a classic masterpiece by Chizuko Ueno, the author of Patriarchy and Capitalism. She makes a summary review of women's thoughts in the 20th century by deeply analyzing the women's thoughts in eleven masterpieces by eleven famous thinkers.
Since the 1960s, feminism has entered its dawning period, and Chizuko Ueno, who was in the process of forming her thoughts, was also deeply influenced by it. She reviewed and summarized the pioneers who pioneered women's thoughts and passed on their footprints to later women.
The main body of this book is divided into two parts: the first part is entitled "Rereading Women's Books", which interprets the works of Japanese female writers and critics such as Kazue Morisaki, Mitsu Tanaka, Taeko Tomioka and Muneko Mizuta; the second part is entitled "Reexamining the World from a Gender Perspective", which deeply analyzes the female thoughts of influential scholars such as Michel Foucault, Edward Said, Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, Joan Wallach Scott and Judith Butler.
Today, feminism has entered the mainstream vision of society. This book has very pertinent and authoritative judgments on how we should correctly view women, feminism and women's thoughts. Once published, it immediately aroused widespread social repercussions and became a must-read classic work for understanding women and women's thoughts and grasping the ideological context of Chizuko Ueno.
