Agatha Christie was born Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller on September 15, 1890 at Ashfield House in Torquay, Devon, England. She had almost no formal education, but loved reading, especially the stories of Sherlock Holmes.

During the First World War, Agatha Christie became a volunteer. After the war, she wrote her first detective novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles. On January 12, 1976, Agatha Christie died at her home in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, England, and was buried in the cemetery of St. Mary's Church in Oxfordshire at the age of 85.
