Description
Introduction · · · · · ·
Psychology and Life is a classic psychology textbook and a model of introductory psychology textbooks. It is well-known in the psychology circles of the United States and many other countries. The American ETS recommends it as the main reference book for the GRE psychology test.
The author of this book, Philip Zimbardo, is one of the world's leading psychologists. He was famous for his outstanding Stanford prison experiment. He is also known as the "voice and face of contemporary psychology" for writing "Psychology and Life" and hosting the TV series "Exploring Psychology".
Many teachers in the field of psychology in my country have been using the English version of this book as a teaching material for many years. With a sense of mission to promote basic psychology education and popularization in my country, 19 professors from the Department of Psychology at Peking University worked together, each selecting a part based on their own research expertise and interests and carefully translating it.
The first edition of Psychology and Life was published in the 1930s. Over the past half century, it has been constantly updated with the times and has been revised 19 times. Each revision not only strives to reflect the latest research progress in psychology, but also maintains its consistent purpose, that is, "psychology is a science, and at the same time pays attention to the application of this science in life", which can be said to be timeless and time-honored. This book is translated from the 19th edition of the original English version. Compared with the 16th edition, it has been greatly revised. The whole book has been streamlined to 16 chapters, hundreds of thousands of words and more than 1,000 references have been updated, and two new columns, "Psychology in Life" and "Critical Thinking in Life" have been added.
At the same time, the translation has also been carefully revised. Compared with the previously published hardcover color edition, this edition adds exercises and a glossary of professional terms at the end of each chapter to better meet the needs of course teaching. As the author said, "Psychology is a science closely related to human happiness." The unique style of this book, which is close to life and in-depth practice, has always been a recommended reading for the general public to understand psychology, better understand human nature, and comprehensively improve their own quality.
