Cao Dewang was born in Gaoshan, Fuqing, Fujian in 1946. He started school at the age of 9 and dropped out at the age of 14. He sold tobacco, sold fruits, and repaired carts. In 1983, he contracted Gaoshan Special Shaped Glass Factory. In 1985, he quickly turned his main business to automotive glass, which completely changed the history of China's automotive glass market that was 100% dependent on imports. In 1987, Fuyao Glass Co., Ltd. was established. In 1993, Fuyao Glass landed on the domestic A-share market. From 2001 to 2005, after years of hard work and spending more than 100 million yuan, he successively won two anti-dumping cases in Canada and the United States, shocking the world. Fuyao Glass also became the first Chinese company to sue the US Department of Commerce and win. With independent intellectual property rights, some fields represent the highest manufacturing level in the world today. It has become an important global supporting supplier for luxury brands such as Bentley, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Land Rover, and Audi, and the world's second largest automotive glass manufacturer, with factories in the United States, Germany, Russia and other places. On May 30, 2009, he won the "Ernst & Young Global Entrepreneur Award". This is also the first Chinese entrepreneur to receive this honor since the establishment of the award. The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, known as the Oscars of the business world, was first held in the United States in 1986. Over the years, only the most successful and innovative entrepreneurs in the world have received this honor. On October 6, 2016, he was awarded the Phoenix Award, the highest award in the global glass industry. Since 1983, his personal donations have exceeded 8 billion yuan, making him the top philanthropist in China.
