【Content Introduction】
As a national treasure poet of Portugal and a core figure of European modernism, Pessoa built a rich and mysterious universe with his charming "heteronymous writing". He created many heteronyms in his life, each with different professions and personalities, and the most important one is Alberto Caeiro. Caeiro is a "natural poet" and "objective poet", and is respected as a master by other heteronyms. He spent most of his life on a farm. He has blond hair and blue eyes. He is an orphan and only completed primary school education.
This book contains all the poems written by Caeiro, including "The Shepherd", "The Shepherd in Love" and "The Shepherd Sequel". Caeiro hopes to write poems without any philosophical thoughts, just to see everything truthfully, emphasizing the grasp of nature with feelings, and opposing ideological cognition: "I look, things exist. I think, only I exist."
【Others’ comments】
Pessoa is an amazing Portuguese poet who surpasses all of Borges in his fantasy writing. --Harold Bloom
Only those who read the work patiently and who are mentally prepared can make an astonishing assessment of Caeiro's foresight and intellectual consistency. - Ricardo Reis (another Pessoa)
About the Author · · · · · ·
Fernando Pessoa (1888-1935)
The greatest Portuguese writer and poet of the 20th century, one of the representatives of Portuguese late symbolism. Literary critic Bloom said that he and Neruda are the most representative poets of the 20th century. Born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1888, he worked as an accountant and commercial translator, which had nothing to do with literature. He died of illness at the age of 47, leaving behind a large number of works. After his death, more than 25,000 pages of unedited manuscripts, including poems, essays, literary criticism, philosophical papers, translations, etc., were made public, causing a sensation. The world of Pessoa's works is composed of many "heteronyms", constructing a huge, complete and mysterious literary universe.
