Yang Benfen was born in Xiangyin, Hunan in 1940. At the age of 17, she was admitted to Xiangyin Industrial School, and then entered the branch of Jiangxi Communist University. She was sent to the countryside before graduation. For decades thereafter, she worked hard to make a living, took care of her husband and children, and later retired from a transportation company. She began writing at the age of 60, and published short stories in magazines such as "Red Bean" and "Dianchi". In 2020, she published her first novel "Autumn Garden", and in 2021, she published a collection of novels "Floating Wood".
