Introduction
China’s history is not just the history of a sovereign state; nor can the Chinese cultural system be covered by the concept of a single cultural system. Whether as a political community or a cultural complex, “China” is a constantly changing system and an ever-evolving order. This “China” that emerged in East Asia has its own process of development and expansion, and therefore it is constantly defined by different “others”.
Today, after eight rounds of forging, "China" is no longer the traditional China. "China" has undergone the biggest and perhaps the most radical change among several ancient cultural systems. We can even ask: Does the original "China" still exist?
