A famous Japanese writer. In 1985, he won the 31st Edogawa Ranpo Prize for After School and officially entered the literary world. He was shortlisted for the Naoki Prize five times for his works such as White Night Walk and Letter, and finally won the 34th Naoki Prize in 2006 for The Devotion of Suspect X. Later, he won the 7th Chuokoron Literature Prize for The Convenience Store in 2012; the 26th Shibata Renzaburo Literature Prize for Fantasy Flower in 2013; and the 48th Yoshikawa Eiji Literature Prize for When the Prayer Ends in 2014.
