As a Frenchman who only knows two or three words of English, Sempé likes everything about New York. He likes those carefree cats, the versatile jazz musicians, the forgotten gardens... In this special city, there lives a group of special people, with joys and sorrows, colorful and full of vitality!
As a young boy, Sempé dreamed of contributing to the top magazine The New Yorker, a dream that finally came true in 1978. He became a member of The New Yorker family and has drawn more than 100 cover illustrations for the magazine, which is unprecedented in The New Yorker.
This book contains all the illustrations that Sempé created for The New Yorker, photos of his life in New York, and a 30,000-word interview. For the first time, the painter talked openly about his painting career and gossip about working for The New Yorker.
