A famous Japanese musician.
Born in Tokyo, Japan in 1947.
He debuted as the bassist of "Apryl Fool" in 1969 and formed the band "Happy End" in 1970.
In 1978, he formed the Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO) with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Yukihiro Takahashi, which achieved great success both artistically and commercially. The band influenced a large number of Japanese musicians active after the 1990s. After the disbandment of YMO, he turned to explore world music and ambient music.
In 1996, he founded the music label "Daisy World", which released various experimental music from Japan and around the world, and he often participated in the production.
He has composed music for well-known movies such as "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" and "Shoplifters".
In 2008, he received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award in the Art Selection Awards.
