➣A café guarding justice, a friendship between women that transcends time!
➣Praised by Harper Lee, author of "To Kill a Mockingbird"!
➣"Fried Green Tomatoes" movie adaptation scored 8.8 on Douban, starring two Oscar-winning actresses Kathy Bates and Jessica Tandy
➣A healing book that has been a North American bestseller for nearly 40 years, unforgettable!
Evelyn, in her middle age, endures a tiresome marriage and a dull life.
By chance, while accompanying her husband to visit his mother-in-law at a nursing home, Evelyn meets Ninny, a lonely, garrulous 86-year-old woman.
Caught in a binge-eating cycle, Evelyn shares snacks and desserts with Ninny while listening to Ninny's fragmented stories about a small town called Whistle Stop from more than 50 years ago...
When the mischievous and lively "tomboy" Idgie meets the refined Ruth, she knows she has met the most important person in her life.
Witnessing Ruth's domestic abuse after marriage, Idgie and her friends bravely rescue Ruth and treat Ruth's son as their own. She and Ruth open a café together, with fried green tomatoes as their signature dish.
The people of Whistle Stop are diverse: chattering housewives, slick-haired gentlemen, Black people working as servants, and disheveled vagrants, all gather at this small café. A tableau of daily life in the American South slowly unfolds...
The entire book "Fried Green Tomatoes" employs a dual narrative: modern-day Evelyn and old lady Ninny, intertwined with 1930s Idgie and Ruth.
The narrative is complex but not chaotic, deliberately disrupting the timeline. However, in the preceding and following chapters, Ninny's recollections, the author's third-person writing, and Mrs. Threadgoode's "Small Town News Bulletin" from the Whistle Stop post office are used in three forms, complementing each other to ensure the story's completeness, interest, and drama.
