【Content Introduction】

In 1848, Dostoyevsky began writing Nedochka.

In 1849, he was exiled to Siberia, where he stopped writing and the novel remained unfinished.

When the novel was first published, it had a subtitle: "A Woman's History".

The story is told from a female perspective, and recounts three very different lives of the protagonist Nedochka - "Childhood", "New Life" and "Mystery".

The typical character in the book, Yefimov, has a strong autobiographical temperament of Dostoevsky. At that time, Dostoevsky had not yet become famous, and he was also conceited and inferior, often tormented by his morbid self-esteem. Dostoevsky's description of his psychology is very incisive, and he became a typical weak and frustrated person in the future.

Another shining character is Princess Katya. Dostoevsky used all his tenderness to make Nedochika feel pure love and warmth.

The story ends abruptly when Nedochka clashes with the male owner of the foster family. But according to the last few pages published at the time, Dostoevsky wanted Nedochka to break free from the cage of the family and eventually live independently and freely.

Each part of the book can be regarded as a link in the whole novel, or as an independent chapter.

【Celebrity Recommendation】

◆I read this book and remembered the first half for the rest of my life. I still think it is the best book, as good as any big masterpiece. I think people should remember Dostoyevsky forever for it. I will never forget what happened to Yefimov, it makes me uneasy day and night. And it seems that there is a demon in my soul from now on, it keeps telling me: Don't waste your life, man! - Wang Xiaobo

◆Before I read "The Green-haired Water Monster", I had just read this book and was deeply impressed. I always felt that this was my inner secret. I didn't expect to see such a similar feeling in Xiaobo's novel. At that time, I felt that my inner secret was seen through. - Li Yinhe
