Description
Introduction · · · · · ·
"Shenzhen Central Axis: The Transformation of the Central Area" is a non-fictional illustrated book that records the development of Shenzhen. It compiles the planning and construction of Shenzhen Central Area and the unknown stories behind it. Shenzhen Central Area is the starting point of the development of contemporary Shenzhen, or more accurately, the center of contemporary Shenzhen. It is not only the focus of the city's politics, economy, and culture, but also deeply affects the impression of everyone who comes to Shenzhen on the city. Whether it is the large roof of the Civic Center, the huge scale of the North and South Squares, or the surrounding buildings designed by celebrity designers. These impressions have become a symbol. Even Starbucks' commemorative coffee cups use the Civic Center pattern to represent Shenzhen (while Beijing uses Tiananmen Square). It can be said that the development of the central area is a microcosm of Shenzhen's urban development. Although it is young, it has also gone through a vicissitudes of 20 to 30 years from planning drawings to completion. The process is full of games between government decision-makers, planning departments, architects and owners. Any spatial form that is currently presented can also be traced back to its origin, because the central area is a model of top-down planning. "Shenzhen Central Axis: The Transformation of the Central Area" interprets, comments and creates the space of the central area through joint writing, peeling off the hidden historical stories layer by layer. The author of "Shenzhen Central Axis: The Transformation of the Central Area" intervenes in the urban space through personal experience, uses words to promote understanding of the significance of the city, culture and space, and at the same time reproduces history in the form of illustrations, presenting a city reader with a sense of time and space.
