This book collects two novels by Supervière: The Pampas and The Child Stealer.

In "The Pampas Man", the protagonist Guanamiru is a farmer on the Pampas. He owns vast fields, an astonishing number of livestock, thirty illegitimate children, and a private garden like a palace. But he is not satisfied with this, he wants to build a volcano. After the volcano was built, his action was not understood by the locals. Therefore, he decided to transport the volcano from South America to Paris, the center of Europe.

In "The Child Stealer", the protagonist Biga is a disgraced South American military officer living in Paris. He has no children but longs to raise them, so he goes "stealing". He "steals" several children from London and Paris, thinking that he can build a "family" that satisfies him. But soon, the balance between the children is broken, and this "family" is on the verge of collapse. Therefore, he decides to return to South America with his precarious "family".
