About the Author
E.O. Braun (March 18, 1903 - April 5, 1944)

Originally named Erich Ohser, he was a German cartoonist. He worked as a fitter in his youth and later studied at the Leipzig Academy of Fine Arts. At the age of 19, Braun's works were first exhibited at an exhibition and received high praise. In 1934, when Braun's son Christian was 3 years old, his first cartoon "Father and Son" was published in the German "Berlin Illustrated".

Before creating "Fathers and Sons", Braun drew many political cartoons that satirized current affairs. After the Nazis came to power in 1933, Braun's political cartoons were banned from publication, so he changed his name to a pen name. In 1944, Braun was denounced by the Nazis. On April 5, 1944, Braun committed suicide in prison. In his farewell letter to his wife, Braun wrote: "I draw for Germany."
