Introduction
【About cats】
A cat likes to eat fish, but doesn't want to get its paws wet. —10th century AD proverb
When I play with my cat, who knows whether it is she who is killing me or I who is killing her? We talk to each other with our antics. If sometimes I start, or refuse to play with her, at the same time she is the one who is killing me. - Montaigne
The sky is in its eyes, and hell is in its heart. - Balzac
All cats are mortal, and Socrates is mortal, so Socrates is a cat. - Ionesco
I believe cats are exiled gods. A cat, I firmly believe, can walk on the clouds. - Jules Verne
God created the cat to give man the pleasure of petting the tiger. -Joseph Merry
【About Cat Dictionary】
French anthropologist Marcel Mauss once said: "Cats are the only animals that have ultimately tamed humans." In an age when many people have become cat slaves, I strongly recommend a must-have book for "cat lovers" - "A Cat's Private Dictionary."
The author of this book, Frédéric Vidoux, is a member of the French Academy and a "hardcore cat lover". In this cat dictionary, he describes the wonderful anecdotes between people and cats in various fields such as literature, art, history, war, drama, music, etc. in a light-hearted and humorous way. As the author said, the image of "cat" has endless meanings. And this image immerses readers in a gentle and lively touch, and allows each reader to re-examine and understand life and the world in a peculiar and pleasant way.
If you want, you can open this book at will. From the description of cats themselves to the anecdotes about cats, you will definitely be surprised. I hope that cats are companions walking in this field of the highest civilization - because in a sense, people did not start the process of civilization until they accepted cats around them, treating cats as free partners and accomplices, rather than domesticated and raised livestock; and cats never want to be domesticated and raised. They prefer to play the role of companions, or even the role of elegant and beautiful masters. Who knows? How many secrets of the universe are contained in their unspoken wisdom.
