Description

Introduction
This book is based on the original Beiyang Pictorial and a complete set of photocopied Beiyang Pictorial collected by the author. It takes "painting" as the main theme and old papers of pictorial magazine as the basis. It is divided into eight chapters: "Painting the World", "Painting New Knowledge", "Painting Civility", "Painting the Body", "Painting Carpets", "Painting Music and Songs", "Painting Light and Shadow", and "Painting Colors". It carefully combs through the relevant information in the Pictorial, from which we can see the sounds, lights, colors, and human life in northern China from the 1920s to the 1930s.
Painting buildings, with paintings as buildings, is the self-description of the "Northern Painting" colleagues at that time. In the 1920s, China had entered the era of reading pictures. A major feature of this book is that it attaches equal importance to the beauty of design and the historical information it contains. The 108 pictures in the book are high-definition reproductions of the original "Northern Pictorial" collected by the author. As the author said: "Northern Pictorial" is a "newspaper with paintings as its newspaper" and takes "spreading beauty" as its mission. If the study of "Northern Painting" lacks "painting", its beauty can only become theory, just like a wheel is missing and a goose is missing a wing.
