Orhan Pamuk (1952- )
Nobel Prize winner in Literature, one of the most outstanding novelists in contemporary Europe, was born in Istanbul, studied painting since childhood, majored in architecture in college, and later turned to literature. In 2006, he won the Nobel Prize in Literature, and the award citation said: "In exploring the melancholy soul of his hometown, he discovered new symbols of the conflict and intersection of civilizations." His works have been translated into more than 60 languages.
