Description
Introduction · · · · · ·
"Silver Age (Platinum Collector's Edition)" is the second of the "Age Trilogy". This is a long novel composed of a group of works in virtual time and space. This group of works is about intellectuals who grew up in this century and lived in the next century. In the process of surviving across centuries, they recall their ancestors, describe their ancestors, and describe their own lives. Rather than saying that this is a prediction of the future world, it is better to say that it is an allegory of modern life and a dystopian story. The future world in which the protagonist lives is not only not better than the present, but has intensified the absurdity of modern life. Intellectuals, as individuals, are thrown into increasingly ridiculous situations. The author uses two sets of narratives. In one set of narratives, he describes painters and novelists who squat in police stations and are caned, as well as their unusual love; in the other set of narratives, he describes himself as a future historian, who makes various "mistakes" because he must follow the principles of historical research. In the end, he returns to his original life and identity and becomes a "normal person" without any desires. These two sets of narratives intersect and overlap from time to time. In the so-called conflict between realism and fiction, the author creates situations that allow him to interweave, ironize, ridicule and conduct playful analysis.
"Silver Age (Platinum Collection Edition)" is one of the three works in the era trilogy of Wang Xiaobo's works, and is a collection of hardcover books. This series was selected as one of the "Top 100 Chinese Novels of the 20th Century" by "Asia Weekly" and the "most beautiful harvest" of contemporary Chinese literature.
The Golden Age, the Silver Age, and the Bronze Age are the essence of Wang Xiaobo's works. On the surface, the "Era Trilogy" is a collection of Wang Xiaobo's works. There seems to be no connection between each part, but in fact there is a logical order. This logical order is: the novels in the Golden Age write about the real world; the novels in the Silver Age write about the future world; and the stories in the Bronze Age all take place in the past.
