Description
Introduction · · · · · ·
This is a collection of essays with the reading quality of a novel, and it is also a book that "recognizes both the heart and the person."
The author, Cai Chongda, tells a series of stories engraved in the flesh and blood in an objective, meticulous and calm way, based on his feelings for his hometown and relatives. The local customs and changes of the times in a small fishing town in Fujian are reflected one by one in these warm and cruel stories. The title "Skin" has a meaning that points to the essence, expressing the author's remembrance of his parents and hometown, and his concern for the fate of his friends, while also answering the questions that we always have to answer.
The book includes 14 works, including "Skin", "Mother's House", "Disability", "Christmas in the Intensive Care Unit", "My God Friend", "Zhang Meili", "Axiao and Axiao", "Genius Exhibition", "Houpu", "The Sea Cannot Be Hidden", "May Every City Not Be Castrated", "Questions We Always Have to Answer", "Going Home", and "The Train Is Going to Where".
Among them, A Tai in the article "Skin" is a 99-year-old old lady who is illiterate and a fortune teller. However, she taught the author a life attitude with inspirational power: "The body is to be used, not to be served."
In Mother's House, the mother wanted to build a house, a four-story house, because "no one around here has built a four-story house. If we build one, we will really stand up." For the house, she did hard labor, picked up vegetable leaves, and refused everyone's sympathy, even though she knew that the house would be demolished soon, just for the sake of "having a home for the rest of my life."
The father in Disability left home, returned, fell ill, struggled, fought for dignity, then failed, regressed into a child, and finally left. The father was illuminated. He was illuminated with disgust, love, intolerance, pity, and concern. In this process, the author grew up. Since the 1970s, the image of the father has disappeared in literary writing. In Cai Chongda's book, this image reappeared.
This special "newcomer's new work", produced by Han Han, has been widely praised since its release. Mo Yan, Bai Yansong, Alai, Yan Lianke and others have commented that it is a surprise in the current writing world. Perhaps Skin is really a completely different, readable and unique forest in the new "non-fiction" writing forest.
