Good relationships come from trouble!
80% of innovation and change come from weak connections between people
A paradigm-shifting work from the author of the global bestseller "The 80/20 Principle"
◎ Editor's Recommendation
★ Good relationships come from trouble. To break through the circle and achieve a leap, casual acquaintances are often more useful than close friends.
★ Richard Koch, a serial entrepreneur whose previous work "80/20 Rule" sold over 1 million copies, found that weak connections between people are the key to determining the breadth of a person's network and success. You don't need to be charming, or have good eyesight, or be good at dealing with things, or have high emotional intelligence. You only need to tap into weak connections and find the right social hubs to expand your circle of friends and let unfamiliar people help you get things done.
◎ Celebrity recommendation
In the online world, weak connections exist in large numbers and are powerful and creative forces. We often find that information obtained by chance can change our lives; people we are not familiar with or have just met may bring us great happiness.
——Hu Yong, professor at the School of Journalism and Communication, Peking University
Network theory is a hot topic. From surfing the Internet to the connection between friends, from economic activities to the way the brain is used, this book uses wonderful stories to analyze the basic context behind human behavior.
——Satoy, Professor of Mathematics at Oxford University
◎ Introduction
This book introduces another golden observation of the author of "The 80/20 Rule": the weak connection rule of social interaction and communication. The world we live in has a networked underlying structure, which includes three important components: strong links, weak links and hubs. Weak links are usually people we are not familiar with in life, but they can bring us knowledge, opportunities and unexpected surprises. It is the social secret of today's elite circle. We will see how all kinds of people use weak links to change their lives, achieve careers, and break through life difficulties; we will also see how companies turn danger into safety and grow stronger because of weak links; we will also see how the power of weak links changes the course of history.
We don’t need to have extraordinary charm or become social experts to leverage the power of weak connections, expand our circle of friends, transcend existing circles, become super circle breakers, and thus increase our influence, continue to achieve great things, see a wider world, and meet more interesting people.
