Xiao Donlian, born in October 1950, is a native of Hengdong County, Hunan Province. He is a scholar of contemporary Chinese history. He is currently a part-time researcher at the Center for Contemporary Chinese History Research of East China Normal University and a special researcher of the China Economic System Reform Research Association. From 1978 to 2006, he majored in modern Chinese history and economics at Nankai University and the PLA Political Academy. From 1979 to 2000, he taught at the PLA Political Academy and the National Defense University, engaged in teaching and research on the history of the Communist Party of China and contemporary Chinese history. His main research directions are contemporary Chinese history and the history of China's reform and opening up. He has written "Rise and Wandering: A Review and Prospect of the Rural Areas in the Past Decade", "Fifty Years of State Affairs - Diplomacy", "Seeking China: A History of the Decade Before the Cultural Revolution", "Three Crises and the Origin of China's Reform", etc.
