【Content Introduction】
The greatest creative feature of John Toland is that he recorded modern history, mainly the history of World War II, without any bias from beginning to end. He could interview hundreds of people and conduct research for several years for a book, with the goal of restoring the original appearance of history as much as possible. This book is not so much a personal biography as it is a faithful record of the important historical events of the 20th century in which John Toland personally participated, and it is more like a social science history work.

John Toland
A famous American writer and historian. Born in Wisconsin in 1912, he experienced World War II. His major works include "Hitler: A Biography", "No Shame", "The Last Hundred Days", "The Decline of the Japanese Empire", "The Battle of the Bulge", etc. He won the 1971 Pulitzer Prize for Journalism for "The Decline of the Japanese Empire".
Toland believes that good historical works are "living history". His writing credo is "not to tell from one's own point of view, but to replay what actually happened like a play, this is the so-called living history." Toland's works abandon the awkwardness and dullness of traditional historical works, and replace them with rich detailed descriptions and dialogues, making readers feel as if they are personally on the scene.
