About the Author

Jonathan Culler (1944- ) is a famous American critical theorist. He received his bachelor's degree from Harvard University in 1966 and his doctorate in modern languages ​​from Oxford University in 1972. Culler has worked in a number of colleges and universities and research institutions. In 1975, he was a visiting professor of French and comparative literature at Yale University. In the same year, he won the Lowell Award of the American Modern Language Association. He is currently a 1916 professor of English and comparative literature at Cornell University and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Culler has long been in charge of the Department of Comparative Literature at Cornell University. He is a leading figure in the field of Western literary criticism and an authoritative interpreter and spokesperson of European theory in the United States. His major works include Saussure, The Search for the Sign, Frame Sign, Barthes, Flaubert, and Literary Theory.
