Description
Introduction · · · · · ·
★The first publication in China, a semi-autobiographical novel by a perfume master, calling for the main theme of the era of "green".
Hermès' exclusive perfumer Elena used the "green scent" to weave a perfume novel mixed with grass, leather and warmth.
★How to break the bottleneck of creation and the contradiction between talent and reality?
The characters and plot are full of paradoxes: Who does Elena think she is, Nicholas, who embraces the decaying market with youthful vigor, or Claude, who stays young forever because of the accumulation of time and persistence?
★Use fictional novels to unravel the inspiration behind classic perfumes, and use the most intimate perspective to interpret the heroes behind the scenes who made Hermès perfumes and Hermès leather go hand in hand.
Elena never acknowledges the authenticity of the story, but instead makes the novel full of tension between fantasy and reality.
In Nicola's view, perfume is a daily necessity that should keep up with the trend and fashion. It is not necessary to be everlasting and famous. After years of hard work, he learned to copy formulas from the market, and then rearrange and combine them in his own way to achieve success. But he also understood that imitation is just a deformation of existing styles. He also wanted to throw away the prototype, people's expectations, and market conventions, even once, and no longer process and modify on the basis of others, but to break away completely and create his own.
Claude belongs to the old school, a pioneer in the perfume industry, and still believes that this ephemeral art has a charm that transcends time. He has been pursuing excellence from the beginning, which is his bottom line. He is demanding and has a craftsman-like persistence in the taste and tonality of perfume. Claude's memory always retains the image of a toddler who is crossing an apple-sized stone. For a few seconds, he feels that he has lost his balance and immediately falls to the ground, then starts again. This picture condenses Claude's understanding of his profession and work: just like a toddler or an acrobat walking on a tightrope, constantly seeking coordination and balance.

Jean Claude Ellena
Born in Grasse, France, the city of perfume, in 1947, his father, brother and daughter are all perfumers. When he was 4 years old, he climbed onto a chair and secretly opened a biscuit box and smelled a slight musty smell. The strong joy brought by breaking the ban left a deep memory for him and became the starting point of his olfactory career. At the age of 16, he worked the night shift as an apprentice in a local essential oil factory; at the age of 20, he became the first student of the Givaudan Perfumery School and only attended classes for nine months; at the age of 36, he officially joined Givaudan as the chief perfumer, and later joined the Hammen Lemmer Fragrance Company (now merged into Symrise).
In 1990, he co-founded the Osmothèque perfume museum in Versailles (literally translated as "scent library"). In 2000, he and his daughter founded their own salon perfume brand, Beaufort. In 2004, he became the first exclusive perfumer of Hermès and created many highly regarded perfumes. Elena's most famous perfume works include the Garden series and the Salon perfume collection series, which is only sold in Hermès stores.
In 2016, he retired from Hermès, and his last perfume works were "Golden Orange Blossom" and "Ceramic Lily of the Valley" from the Scent Collection.
In 2019, Elena created "Rose and Leather" for Fomar and the Animal Series for Minimes Abbey.
Elena now lives in Grasse and owns a personal perfumery laboratory in the local town of Cabris. She has published books such as "Perfume", "Perfumer's Diary", "Green Scent", and "Writer of Scent".
