Akutagawa Ryunosuke is a famous modern Japanese writer. His nicknames are Yanagawa Ryunosuke and Chengjiangtang Master. He graduated from Tokyo Imperial University. He was immersed in Chinese and Japanese classical literature since childhood, and was later influenced by the French symbolism in the late 19th century. In 1915, he published the short story "Rashomon", and later published "The Nose" and "Handkerchief" successively, becoming a representative of the new trend of thought. His early works mostly took historical themes, emphasized artistic conception and aesthetic interest, and showed a certain aesthetic tendency. Later, he turned to realism, such as the short stories "Orange" and "Autumn". He committed suicide in 1927. He wrote 148 novels, sketches, essays, reviews, and travel notes. His works are elegant, precise, and diverse in form. In 1935, Japan established the "Akutagawa Literary Award".
