In 1895, Wilde went to court with the Marquis of Queensberry, the father of his former lover Percy, and was sentenced to prison, ruining his reputation. In prison, Wilde wrote this famous long letter in literary history, "De Profundis", to Percy, recounting the pain Percy had brought him, and also discussing Jesus, love and literature, and seemed to have expectations for their future.

About the Author
【About the Author】
Oscar Wilde (1854-1900), born in Dublin, Ireland, is a playwright, novelist, fairy tale writer and poet, and a representative of British aesthetic literature. He wrote many popular works throughout his life, and also attracted attention for his tortuous experience.
Translator’s Profile
Zhu Chunshen received his PhD in English (Translation) from the University of Nottingham in 1993. He has been engaged in translation, translation teaching and research for more than 40 years. He has taught at Fujian Normal University, National University of Singapore and City University of Hong Kong. He is currently a professor of translation at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. He is the author of Fathoming Translation as Discursive Experience (2021) and the translator of Notes on a Floating Life (to be published).
