Description
Introduction · · · · · ·
How do artists make a living in the digital age? You’ll hear two very different voices.
One is from Silicon Valley: Now is the best time to be an artist. With a laptop, you have a recording studio. With an iPhone, you have a camera. Creation costs almost nothing, and the Internet is free to publish works. Everyone can be an artist. As long as you use your creativity and publish your works, you have the potential to succeed.
One is from the artists themselves: Yes, you can publish your work, but who will pay for it? Music, writing, videos, pictures are all free. Digital content has long been turned into a free dinner.
If artists were still craftsmen in the Renaissance, wandering in the 19th century, and becoming professional in the 20th century, then in the 21st century, artists have been severely impacted by the economic environment. First we had fast food, then fast fashion, and now we have fast art: fast music, fast writing, fast video, photography, design, illustration and other cheap creations. These fast-consumed works of art allow us to do whatever we want and devour them...
However, in this era dominated by digital and capital, is it only artists who are like this? I am afraid that each of us will or is facing such a reality.
