Description
In extraordinary times, extraordinary measures must be taken, so people say, especially in extraordinary eras like World War II, facing extraordinary enemies like fascism.
However, Lewis warns us that to take extraordinary measures, one must always know the "Tao," understand what is "ordinary" and what is the eternal, unchanging way. Otherwise, not only does the word "extraordinary" become meaningless, but as we use extraordinary means to eliminate evil enemies, we inherit the enemies' evil and become as "extraordinary" as they are. At that point, victory becomes a Faustian bargain: we surrender our souls, and the devil helps us achieve victory.
The author C. S. Lewis, throughout his life, published works spanning three fields: theology, philosophy, and literature (including research and creative writing). There is still a significant gap in the translation of his works in China. The publication of this book will help readers gain a more comprehensive understanding of this "great Oxonian" and fill this gap.
About the Author
C.S. Lewis (1898-1963) was a multifaceted genius writer of 20th-century Britain. He joined the faculty of Oxford University at the age of 26 and was hailed by his contemporaries as "the great Oxonian." Lewises": first, an outstanding literary historian and critic at Oxford and Cambridge Universities, whose representative works include "English Literature in the Sixteenth Century (Excluding Drama)" in the Oxford History of English Literature. Second, a popular science fiction and children's author, whose representative works include "The Space Trilogy" and "The Chronicles of Narnia." Third, a popular Christian theologian and speaker, whose representative works include "The Pilgrim's Regress," "The Screwtape Letters," "Mere Christianity," and "The Four Loves," among others. He wrote over 30 books in his lifetime, including academic works, novels, poetry collections, and fairy tales. He has a vast following worldwide, and to this day, his works continue to attract thousands of readers every year.
