Description

Introduction · · · · · ·
"History of Western Philosophy" was written during World War II and originated from a series of philosophy history lectures given by Russell in Philadelphia, USA. The book is divided into three volumes, which chronologically describe ancient philosophy, Catholic philosophy, and modern philosophy. In this book, Russell fully demonstrates his understanding of the historical development of Western philosophy from the perspective of a philosopher, including both the description of the philosophical views of important philosophers and Russell's own criticism of these ideas. This book condenses the content of Russell's original work of 700,000 words into less than 200,000 words. It not only retains the most important ideas and analytical arguments in the original work, but also fits the current readers' habit of quickly mastering and understanding classics, making it easier for readers to grasp the wonderful content of this book from many aspects.

About the Author
Bertrand Russell (1872-1970) is a British mathematician and encyclopedic thinker. He is also one of the most influential scholars and social activists in the West in this century.

Russell visited the Soviet Union and met Lenin. At the invitation of Liang Qichao, he went to China to lecture for nine months between 1920 and 1921. He had extensive contacts with Chinese intellectuals and people from all walks of life, promoted China's New Culture Movement, and "Russell fever" swept the country.

He wrote seventy or eighty books in his lifetime, most of which combined profound theory with popular expression. His fluent and fresh prose was highly renowned, and he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1950.

Russell believed that misfortune should be attributed to a wrong worldview to a large extent, and happiness is a human right and something that people should pursue. In The Path to Happiness, Russell summarized some reasonable opinions that were confirmed by his own experience and observation, and made a prescription for readers, hoping that countless depressed men and women can find their case studies here and become happy with appropriate efforts.
