Description
Introduction · · · · · ·
"Dreaming of West Lake" contains more than 80 articles, which describe in detail the landscapes, gardens, scenic spots, historical sites, customs and figures of West Lake, and more than 260 poems and essays by 74 ancient sages and contemporaries. The book is elegant and fluent, short and interesting. With the theme of "dream", it expresses Zhang Dai's nostalgia and yearning, but the overall tone is still unrestrained and bright, which concentrates on Zhang Dai's achievements in prose and is a model of essays in Ming and Qing Dynasties. In order to facilitate readers' reading and appreciation, the famous scholar Lin Bangjun was invited to give detailed annotations to the poems, famous objects, historical and geographical anecdotes in the book, taking into account the interpretation of words and sentences; after each article, there is also a solemn and humorous "commentary" text, which either supplements relevant information or comments on the purpose and skills of the text. It is highly readable and is not available in similar books. It is an ideal reading book for appreciating Zhang Dai's prose and his aesthetic thoughts.
