Zhang Dai, also known as Weicheng, with the courtesy name Zongzi, and the pseudonyms Shigong, Taoan, Diean, Tiansun, and Liuxiu Jushi, was a native of Shanyin (now Shaoxing, Zhejiang). His ancestral home was in Mianzhu, Sichuan, so he also called himself "Shuren" and "Gujian". He was born in the 25th year of the Wanli reign (1597). There are different opinions about the year of his death. According to the biography of Zhang Dai in Shang Pan's Yuefeng, it should be in the 28th year of the Kangxi reign (1689), at the age of 93.
