【Content Introduction】
Can “informed consent” prevent sexual assault?
Can we regain control over our lives by having fewer or no children?
From medical beauty and surrogacy to gene editing, will new body modification technologies satisfy our desires, or will they turn us into experimental subjects for capital profit?
The book revolves around the transformation of the body under the capitalist system. The author first traces back how our bodies were transformed into working machines through various forms of coercion during the transition period of capitalism. This process is full of brutality, and women have suffered a double mechanization process.
The author then returns to the present. With the rapid innovation of medical technology, the body transformation of the new era - from disease treatment, medical beauty surgery to surrogacy - has gradually become a trend. What kind of danger is hidden behind this? The development of artificial intelligence capital requires the continuous improvement of human capabilities. Cloning, gene editing and gene transfer technologies seem to allow the future capitalist world to produce new forms of human life and select more capable people... In this case, how can we take back our ability to decide on our own bodies?
Federici shows us that capitalism turns the human body into a machine, separating us from each other and the earth. Only by transcending individual boundaries, connecting and interdependent, can we regain the power of our bodies, take back our collective power, and decide what kind of life we want.
