John Burlingham was born in England in 1936. He entered Summerhill School at the age of 12 and entered the Central School of Art in London at the age of 20 to formally learn painting. His first book, Boa, won him the first British picture book award, the Kate Greenwell Award. Since then, Burlingham has published two books every year and has become a world-renowned author. His works have received the highest evaluation of "interweaving reality and fantasy". Later, he won the second Kate Greenwell Award with "River Cruise with Uncle Gumball", and his "Grandpa" and "Hey! Get Off!" have been made into internationally popular animated films.

Berlingham believes that the most important thing in painting is to be able to draw the spiritual characteristics of each character, so that the painting can convey the spirit and thought of the work. Although Berlingham is a silent and serious artist, his works reveal a world full of rich colors and passion, as well as a sarcastic and ironic humor, which is deeply loved by young readers around the world.

Known as the illustrator who understands children's imagination best, Berlinghan still modestly said that what he wants to do most is to give children a sky of imagination, and at the same time awaken the imagination of adults that has long gone.
