Description

Introduction · · · · · ·
In High Vision, Simon Heffer explores the dramatic transformation that took place in Britain between the 1840s and the 1880s. From poverty and unrest to progress and prosperity, the country was transformed not only by the Industrial Revolution, but also by new ideas in politics, education, women's rights and the working class. This transformation was largely facilitated by the outstanding work of politicians, philanthropists, writers and thinkers.

This book traces the development of British society by deeply analyzing the birth of new ideas and detailing how aesthetic issues have led to wider discussions. In the process, the author extensively examines the ideological struggles of famous thinkers and writers, as well as the great social engineering created by the Victorian era. The reader is presented with a myriad of faces of an outstanding era, each with its own subtle differences, but undoubtedly reflecting the morale and public sentiment of this era. As the author says, it was the pursuit of perfection by Victorian "heroes" that accelerated the birth of modern Britain.
