On the 100th anniversary of the May Fourth Movement, we look back at the May Fourth Movement in the history of literature and thought!
51 scholars re-examine the May Fourth Movement and its impact from the perspectives of literature, thought, style, and characters.

On the 100th anniversary of the May Fourth Movement, the movement and its impact are analyzed from various perspectives, and the literature, history, and thought since the May Fourth Movement are reviewed and reflected upon.

Return to the scene of the May Fourth Movement and calmly watch the legend of the May Fourth Movement. The May Fourth Movement is not over yet. Its success and failure still hurt us who are living in numbness, obedience, anxiety, and loss of ideals. The May Fourth Movement is not over yet, because it is not the history of the past, but the history of the future.

One hundred years after the May Fourth Movement, apart from academic reflections, the memory of the May Fourth Movement in society has been lost in the river of time. At the same time, the deliberate intervention or neglect of the authorities shows the traces of the politicization or depoliticization of the May Fourth Movement. The political potential of the May Fourth Movement has been buried.

The significance of May Fourth should not stop here. Although May Fourth happened not long ago, it is necessary to study it. May Fourth @ 100: Culture, Thought, History invites 51 scholars from different fields to reveal the problematic and controversial nature of May Fourth from different perspectives. This book aims to review the May Fourth in the history of culture, literature and thought. These three are closely related and constitute the basis of the discourse and imagination of May Fourth, which has triggered various social practices and even revolutions.

"May 4th @ 100" echoes the spirit of the May 4th Movement in the form of a cacophony of voices: express your own opinions and express yourself freely. Looking back at the past 100 years of unrest in China and the Chinese-speaking world, we have witnessed all kinds of possibilities, both the best and the worst. Looking back at the May 4th Movement, we understand that our position may not be different from that of the May 4th Movement: shouting and hesitation, passion and disillusionment, myths of the May 4th Movement or not, they are intertwined and lead to the next round of thinking and action.
