Born into a middle-class family, Jules Verne followed his family's arrangement to study law in his early years, but he always loved literature. After he obtained a bachelor's degree in law, he devoted himself to playwriting. In 1850, he met Alexandre Dumas in Paris and published and performed his first play, The Broken Straw. Later, Verne refused to follow in his father's footsteps and hoped to continue his studies in the fields of science and literature. He completed the creation of his first novel in 1852 and worked as a secretary in the theater. In 1863, Jules Verne published Five Weeks in a Balloon, which was a huge success.

Between 1864 and 1869, Verne wrote the masterpieces Journey to the Center of the Earth and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. In 1870, he was awarded the Knight of the Legion of Honor.
