About the Author
Chen Wei, born in 1985, holds a doctorate in science. He is currently an associate researcher at the Institute of the History of Natural Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, a member of the Youth Innovation Promotion Association of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a director of the Chinese Society of the History of Machinery. He mainly focuses on the history of Sino-foreign scientific and technological exchanges, the history of technology, and the history of mathematics. He has undertaken and participated in a number of research projects, including the "Belt and Road Project" of the International Cooperation Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the major project "Creation and Dissemination of Knowledge" of the Institute of the History of Natural Sciences. He has participated in the compilation of major projects such as the Science and Technology History Volume of the "New History of China" and the "History of Science and Technology Volume" of the "Encyclopedia of China" (third edition). He has published a monograph "The Ancient Silk Road and the Dissemination of Technological Knowledge" (2018) and published more than 40 articles in academic journals such as "Research on the History of Natural Sciences" and newspapers such as "Guangming Daily". He has visited and inspected more than ten countries along the Silk Road and has unique insights into cross-cultural comparative studies. He is enthusiastic about participating in science communication work, and has served as an academic consultant for projects such as the "Cultural Integration" course of the International Academies Science Education Project (IAP-SEP), the "Be Marco Polo for a Day: Discovering the Wisdom of the Silk Road" exhibition at the China Science and Technology Museum, and participated in the writing of books such as "Major Scientific and Technological Inventions and Creations in Ancient China" and "China's Thirty Greatest Inventions". He was a guest at the "SELF Gezhi Lundao" forum of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and taught history of science and technology courses at Peking University.
