Description
Introduction · · · · · ·
William Golding (1911-1994) is one of the greatest British novelists of the 20th century and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1983. Lord of the Flies is his most important representative work and a famous philosophical novel that uses the innocence of children to explore the serious theme of human evil.
The story takes place during the imaginary Third World War. A group of children aged six to twelve are trapped on a deserted island due to a plane crash during their retreat. At first, they can still live in harmony, but later, as their evil nature expands, they kill each other, resulting in tragic consequences. The author concretizes the abstract philosophical proposition and allows readers to understand it through reading fascinating stories and exciting fighting scenes. The characters, scenes, stories, images, etc. are all deeply symbolic. It is recognized as one of the greatest literary masterpieces of the 20th century.
