Khaled Hosseini was born in Kabul, Afghanistan in 1965, and later moved to the United States with his father. He graduated from the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, and currently lives in California. He is the author of novels such as The Kite Runner (2003), A Thousand Splendid Suns (2007), and And the Mountains Echoed (2013). His works have sold more than 40 million copies worldwide.

In 2006, due to the great international influence of his works, Hosseini won the United Nations Humanitarian Award and was invited to serve as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
