Introduction
Harvard University professor and renowned economist Claudia Goldin traces women's century-long journey towards equality.
Based on decades of groundbreaking research, Goldin divided college-educated women from the early 20th century to the present into five groups, and conducted in-depth research on their ideal aspirations in career, marriage, children, etc., the various obstacles they encountered in reality, and the generational evolution process.
A century ago, college-educated women had to choose between career and family, and often could only choose one or the other. Today, the number of college-educated women has increased significantly, and they have more choices and more opportunities to have both a career and a family. However, due to social norms, the nature of work, time constraints, etc., the problem of gender inequality, although not as serious as in the past, still exists.
At present, the quick solution to gender inequality often starts from the female side, but the author believes that both gender equality in the workplace and equality between couples at home involve both ends of the equation, so the solution also needs to start from both ends of the equation. The author therefore provides a pragmatic solution.
