The Fall is a satirical novel about an intellectual named Clamence who leads a double life, telling another person about his life in a bar. Sartre believes that The Fall may be Camus's "most beautiful and least understood book".

Exile and the Kingdom contains six short stories. Camus uses the concepts of exile and kingdom to illustrate two states of human existence: exile is a realistic state, while the kingdom is an ideal state.
