"To Live (New Edition)" tells the tragic life experience of Fugui, a rural man. Fugui was originally a rich young man, but he was addicted to gambling and finally gambled away his family property and became penniless. His father was angered to death by him, and his mother became seriously ill in poverty. Fugui went to seek medicine, but was captured by the Kuomintang on the way to serve as a soldier. After several twists and turns, he returned home and found out that his mother had passed away long ago. His wife Jiazhen raised their two children with great difficulty. After that, a more tragic fate befell Fugui again and again. His wife, children and grandson died one after another. In the end, only Fugui and an old cow were left to depend on each other, but the old man was still alive, as if he was more free and strong than before.
